WilsonPrivacy Policy
The short version: Wilson shows you which third-party trackers a page talks to. To do that it reads the addresses (URLs) of the network requests made by pages you visit, classifies them on your device, and keeps the results only until you close the tab. Nothing is collected by us, and nothing is sold, shared or transmitted.
Who we are
Wilson is a Chrome extension made by Cobra Digital Group LLC, a Florida limited liability company ("Cobra Digital Group," "we," "us"). This policy explains what Wilson accesses, what it stores, and what it does with that information.
What Wilson accesses
When you load a web page, your browser makes network requests to fetch its content, and many of those
requests go to third-party companies. Wilson uses Chrome's webRequest API to observe these
requests on the sites you visit. For each request it reads:
- the URL (address) of the request; and
- which browser tab the request came from, so results can be shown for the right page.
Wilson matches each request's domain against a copy of the DuckDuckGo Tracker Radar dataset that is bundled inside the extension, to identify the company behind it, its category, how many requests it has made, and whether it is known for session replay or browser fingerprinting.
Wilson does not read the content of the pages you visit, anything you type into forms, or the contents of requests and responses. It observes requests only; it does not block, change or redirect them.
How it is processed
All classification happens locally, inside the extension in your browser. Wilson has no server, and it sends nothing to Cobra Digital Group, to DuckDuckGo, or to anyone else.
What Wilson stores
Wilson keeps a tracker list for each open tab (the companies, categories, request counts and flags described
above) in Chrome's session storage (chrome.storage.session). Session storage is held in memory
and is not written to your disk or synced to your Google account. A tab's list is cleared when you close
that tab, and all of it is cleared when Chrome exits. Wilson does not keep a history of the sites you visit.
What Wilson does not do
- It does not collect personal information or personally identifiable information.
- It does not keep or build a browsing history.
- It does not sell, rent, share or transfer any data to third parties.
- It does not transmit data over the network.
- It contains no analytics, telemetry, advertising, or tracking of any kind.
- It does not load or run remote code. All of its code and data ship inside the extension package.
- It does not require an account.
Permissions
- webRequest and access to all sites: lets Wilson see the URLs of network requests made by the pages you visit, on any site, so it can identify trackers. Chrome describes this access as being able to "read and change all your data on all websites." Wilson uses it only to read request URLs as described above.
- sidePanel: lets Wilson show its radar in Chrome's side panel.
- storage: lets Wilson hold each tab's tracker list in session storage.
Third-party data
Tracker company and category information comes from DuckDuckGo Tracker Radar, copyright Duck Duck Go, Inc., used under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). The dataset is bundled with the extension, so using it never involves contacting DuckDuckGo. Wilson is free and non-commercial, and it is not affiliated with or endorsed by DuckDuckGo.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
Wilson's handling of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Request URLs are used only to provide Wilson's single purpose, showing you which trackers a page talks to, and are never used or transferred for any other reason.
Children
Wilson does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of Wilson changes what it accesses or stores, we will update this policy and its effective date before that version is published.
