Muted and run at 16x
Skippable or not, every ad gets muted and played at 16x the second it starts. A 30 second ad is over in about two.
YouSkipChrome Extension Coming Soon
The moment a YouTube ad starts, YouSkip mutes it and cranks it to 16x. Skippable or not, it's over in seconds, then your volume and speed come right back.
Free. No account. Nothing to set up. Built by Cobra Digital Group.
How it works
Skippable or not, every ad gets muted and played at 16x the second it starts. A 30 second ad is over in about two.
A two minute ad turns into about eight seconds. No waiting on a Skip countdown, no reaching for the mouse.
When the ad is done, your volume and playback speed come back. Watch at 1.5x, stay at 1.5x.
The popup
Click the YouSkip icon in your toolbar and that's all there is. No settings maze, no sign in.
Want to watch an ad for once? Flip it off. Flip it back on when you come to your senses.
How many ads YouSkip handled and how much time it handed back. The tally is kept in Chrome on your computer and nowhere else.
Why it's safe
YouSkip asks Chrome for the smallest set of permissions that can do the job. Here's what each one is for, in plain English.
youtube.com
Lets YouSkip run on YouTube pages, and only YouTube pages, so it can tell when an ad is playing and speed up the video player. It never runs on any other site.
storage
Saves your on/off setting and your counters inside Chrome on this computer. That is the complete list of what YouSkip remembers.
Questions
No. YouSkip doesn't block anything. YouTube serves its ads as usual; YouSkip mutes them and plays them at 16x so they're over in seconds.
No. On a YouTube page it looks at exactly two things: whether the player is showing an ad, and the video element. It doesn't read your account, history, searches or comments, and it never sends anything anywhere.
Nothing. YouSkip is free.
YouSkip is headed to the Chrome Web Store. This page will link straight to the listing as soon as it's live.
